Abstract:
Over seventeen million Nigerians living abroad who are contributing immensely to the growth and development of Nigeria through Remittance, Knowledge Transfer and Mentorship as well as Political Engagement continue to agitate for diaspora voting since the return of recent Democracy in 1999. The issue of Diaspora Voting has been brought to the front burner of national discourse through the activities of Nigerian Diaspora Voting Council in United Kingdom in conjunction with the Nigeria Diaspora Commission. The Quest for Diaspora voting in Nigeria is facing a series of hindrances ranging from Legal and Constitutional issues, Logistics problem, Financial Challenges, Paucity of reliable data on Nigeria's Diaspora, Lack of Political will, Ethnic and Religious differences in the global distribution of Nigerians in Diaspora, Systemic corruption, Technical deficiency, Administrative deficiencies, Lack of Good Governance amongst series of challenges. Against this backdrop therefore the study examined the issues and challenges facing the need for Diaspora Voting in Nigeria.
