Abstract:
Holistic development is a key component in Early Childhood Education. However, this area is often not adequately catered for in the education of children. This paper therefore explored the viable roles of Early Childhood Education for ensuring holistic child development in Nigeria. It reviewed conceptual issues around Early Childhood Education and explored the purpose of Early Childhood Education. It further analyzed the roles of early childhood educators and schools in total child development. It equally conceptualized holistic development and examined the importance and principles of holistic education as well as the impact of early childhood care and education on total child development. The paper suggested that teachers should ensure judicious use of available school activities and academic tools for enhancing the holistic development of the children in Early Childhood Education in Nigeria.
