Abstract:
This study investigated entrepreneurial development and unemployment in Nigeria. Relevant literatures on the subject matter was discussed and anchored on the creative imitation theory. The study adopted a survey research design to sample 50 business owners in Abraka Community, Delta State, utilizing questionnaire to collect data. Data generate from fieldwork was analysed using simple percentage and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). After analysis, the following findings were ascertained; there is significant relationship between self-employment and job creation in Nigeria, there is significant relationship between entrepreneurial finance and level of employment in Nigeria as well as there is significant relationship between entrepreneurship awareness and employment engagement among the unemployed in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the researcher recommends that government should establish programs to support self-employment initiatives, such as providing training, mentorship, and access to funding for aspiring entrepreneurs, financial institutions should develop tailored financial products and services to support self-employment ventures, such as microloans and business incubation programs, government should establish funding schemes and grants to support entrepreneurial ventures, particularly for startups and small businesses, to enable them to create more jobs among others.
