Abstract:
This study was conducted to investigate the influence of onboarding practices on employees' behavioural expectations in the banking sector in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The specific objectives were to examine how social integration, functional integration, and cultural integration influence employees' behavioural expectations at selected deposit money banks in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Social Exchange Theory (SET) was adopted as the anchored theory for the study. The cross-sectional survey research design was employed to target 296 respondents determined using the Topman formula. A 12-item questionnaire measured on a 5-point Likert scale was used, and the responses were descriptively analysed. The formulated hypotheses were tested using simple linear regression analysis. Findings from the analysis revealed that onboarding practices (social, functional, and cultural integration) had a significant positive influence on employees' behavioural expectations in the banking sector in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. We concluded that social, functional, and cultural integration are the primary drivers affecting employee behaviour within an organisation. Among other recommendations, we recommend that the banking industry should ensure that new employees receive clear and detailed orientation on their roles, responsibilities, operational procedures, and performance expectations.
