Abstract:
The study examined the contribution of the Parish Development Model to the socio-economic welfare of local communities in Katikamu Sub-County, with specific focus on Migadde Parish. Specifically, the study assessed the relationship between community participation in the Parish Development Model (PDM) and household income status, as well as employment status among beneficiaries. The study employed a cross-sectional, descriptive, and case study research design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. A sample size of 168 respondents was selected, of whom 152 participated in the study. Data were collected using questionnaires and interview guides and analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis. Findings revealed that the majority of respondents were female (60.5%), while most respondents were aged between 36-45 years (25.7%). The results indicated a positive but weak and statistically insignificant relationship between participation in PDM and household income status (r = 0.129, p = 0.114 > 0.05). However, a positive and statistically significant relationship was found between participation in PDM and employment status among residents of Migadde Parish (r = 0.206, p = 0.011 < 0.05). The study concludes that the Parish Development Model has contributed more to employment creation than to household income improvement. The study recommends increased funding, timely release of PDM funds, enhanced community sensitization and training, establishment of stable produce markets, and administrative subdivision of Migadde Parish to improve service delivery and program effectiveness in Uganda
