Abstract:
This research focuses on the evaluation of the 33 kV power supply feeder in the Ikare-Akoko distribution station feeding Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA). Data on failures, availability, outage duration, load interrupted, numbers of customers served and types of faults for five (5) years (2020 to 2024) was gotten from the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). Data of failure outage was also extracted from AAUA. Applicable reliability indices method was employed in the evaluation of the power supply feeder to determine the applicable Reliability Indices The results show that the power supply availability fluctuates and varies from 8.5 -17.3 hours monthly for 5 yrs; the overall power supply availability and average service unavailability index on the 33 kV power supply feeder in the study area is 1.17% - 2.24% and 97.6 - 98.8% respectively, over a period of five (5) years; the load survey of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko is 1.59MVA. Conclusively, power supply is not stable and available to meet the required work; and the obtained reliability in this work is totally below accepted standard of 99.99%; In order to meet the power supplied needed in this work, the inverter is sized to 1.114 MVA with standard demand factor, diversity factor and future expansion, and 1.25 MVA inverter is proposed for Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. 800 V dc, 5,200Ah battery is sized and recommended for the proposed inverter for operational 8 hours. Prior to the design of inverters, load survey of the concerned edifice must be carried out for effective design and recommendation.
