Abstract:
This study examined the impact of continuous assessment (CA) on students' academic performance in selected secondary schools in Oyo West Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design and involved a sample of 200 students selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, the Continuous Assessment and Academic Performance Questionnaire (CAAPQ), and analyzed using mean scores. The findings revealed that continuous assessment positively affects students' academic performance, enhances learning through regular feedback, and contributes significantly to overall academic achievement compared to reliance on final examinations alone. The study concluded that effective implementation of continuous assessment, accompanied by timely and constructive feedback, is essential for improving students' academic outcomes. Recommendations were made to improve CA practices, provide timely feedback, and balance CA with final examinations to ensure holistic evaluation of students' performance.
