Abstract:
The global ecological crisis, characterized by climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation, and unsustainable patterns of resource exploitation, has highlighted the need for ethical and spiritual approaches to environmental sustainability. This study examines the reactualization of Tumpek Wariga theology as a form of Hindu ecological theology capable of addressing contemporary ecological challenges. Employing a qualitative theological approach and library research methodology, the study analyzes the theological foundations, ecological values, and contemporary relevance of Tumpek Wariga within Balinese Hinduism. The findings reveal that Tumpek Wariga embodies a theological understanding of nature as a sacred manifestation of the Divine, particularly through the veneration of Sang Hyang Sangkara, the protector of plants and vegetation. This worldview promotes ecological ethics based on gratitude, reciprocity, stewardship, and the interconnectedness of all life. The study further argues that the reactualization of Tumpek Wariga theology enables the transformation of ritual symbolism into practical ecological responsibility, including environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable living. Moreover, the tradition contributes to the development of a distinctive Hindu ecological theology that challenges anthropocentric paradigms and enriches global environmental discourse through local religious wisdom. The study concludes that Tumpek Wariga offers a relevant theological framework for fostering ecological awareness and promoting harmonious relationships among humanity, nature, and the Divine in response to the contemporary ecological crisis.
