Abstract:
: This article examines the metaphorical modelling of the concept of the sun in English and Karakalpak folk riddles from a comparative linguo-cognitive perspective. Particular attention is paid to the conceptualization of the sun through anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, and socio-cosmological images, as well as to the interpretation of its semantic features such as movement, power, beauty, dominance, and life-giving force. The analysis demonstrates that in English riddles the sun is predominantly represented as an active, dominant, and occasionally dangerous anthropomorphic being, whereas in Karakalpak riddles it is depicted as a horse, a hero, a beautiful girl, a mother, and an element of a cosmic family system. The findings reveal that the cosmological perceptions, ethnocultural values, and linguistic worldviews of both peoples are reflected through the metaphorical semantics of riddles. Furthermore, the article substantiates the concept of the sun as a linguo-cognitive model in which universal and nationally specific features of folk cognition are harmoniously integrated.
