Abstract:
This study provides a systematic review of current frontier dynamics and emerging trends in international Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research. Findings reveal that contemporary research exhibits a pronounced fusion of multidisciplinary approaches and is deeply driven by technological advancements. Core frontiers include the in-depth application of cognitive neuroscience, intensified expansions of sociocultural and sociocognitive theories, paradigm shifts enabled by technology, the burgeoning study of informal learning contexts, and the development of comprehensive models for assessing multilingual competence. Looking forward, three key developmental trends are identified: the dominance of multimodal and ecologically valid methodologies, the continued refinement of neural mechanism analysis, and the integrated advancement of intelligent and personalized pedagogical technologies. Concurrently, the research paradigm is expanding towards lifelong and multi-contextual frameworks. This study offers significant insights for the Chinese SLA academic community to grasp emergent fields and foster theoretical innovation coupled with enhanced practical efficacy.
