Abstract:
The high demand for quality education today comes with the high demand for clear-cut educational assessment methods. The illiteracy in educational assessment is a suicide to the system. Hence, it is essential for educators, specifically those teaching in tertiary level, to have enough knowledge in this aspect. This study explored the practices of HEI's faculty towards educational assessment with regard to attitude, perceived skills, knowledge and practices. Using a standardized questionnaire by Alkharusi, et. al., (2009), the results from 103 educators revealed that teachers have neutral attitude towards the educational assessment and that they perceived themselves skilled in it. However, only one (1) respondent is emerged competent. In terms of practicing the use of reliable means in student assessment, respondents were rated "moderate". Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that there are no significant differences among the profile of the respondents with their corresponding attitude, perceived skills, knowledge, and practices towards educational assessment. Based on the findings, it is highly recommended that the university offer trainings and seminars for the competence of faculty members in educational assessment. As fundamental part of professional growth, instructors, regardless of specialization must be engaged in teacher development programs concentrating in educational assessment.
