Abstract:
This study explored the lived experiences of working students as they balance academic responsibilities and employment while pursuing higher education. The research aimed to understand the challenges they encounter, the coping mechanisms they develop, and the impact of working while studying on their academic performance and personal well-being. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with twelve (12) selected working students who shared their personal insights, struggles, and motivations in managing both work and academic demands. A qualitative research approach was used, specifically employing a transcendental phenomenological design to capture and describe the participants' experiences. The findings revealed several common challenges among working students, including time management difficulties, physical and emotional fatigue, financial pressure, and limited time for academic preparation and social activities. Despite these obstacles, the participants demonstrated resilience, determination, and strong motivation to complete their education while supporting their financial needs. Many students developed strategies such as prioritizing tasks, maintaining discipline, and seeking support from family, friends, and instructors. The study highlights the importance of understanding the realities faced by working students and emphasizes the need for supportive educational policies and flexible learning environments to help them succeed academically while fulfilling their work responsibilities.
