Abstract:
This study examines Hindu perspectives on parenting as a holistic educational framework for cultivating discipline and perseverance in children. Amid growing concerns over declining moral values, reduced self-discipline, and limited resilience among younger generations, the study explores how Hindu educational philosophy conceptualizes parenting as a lifelong process of character formation. Employing a qualitative library research approach, the study analyzes primary Hindu scriptures, including the Bhagavad G?t?, Upani?ads, Manusm?ti, Mah?bh?rata, ?r?mad Bh?gavatam, and Hitopade?a, complemented by contemporary literature on character education and developmental psychology. The findings reveal that Hindu parenting emphasizes parents as children's first educators who cultivate discipline through self-regulation, moral habituation, exemplary conduct, and consistent guidance, while perseverance is developed through continuous practice, resilience, and commitment to dharma. These principles are integrated within everyday family life rather than taught as isolated moral concepts. The study concludes that Hindu parenting offers a comprehensive and value-based framework that complements contemporary theories of character education by integrating ethical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of child development, thereby contributing to holistic educational practices in the twenty-first century.
