Abstract:
This study examines how local government infrastructural development interventions affect the reintegration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Jilab Camp, Hodan Village, Garowe District, Somalia. A descriptive correlational design employing a mixed-methods approach was used. The sample included IDP household heads, local government representatives, community leaders, and officials from humanitarian agencies working in the area. Quantitative data were gathered through structured questionnaires, while qualitative information was obtained via interviews and focus group discussions. The analysis focused on determining how infrastructure initiatives such as housing projects, water and sanitation services, road networks, health facilities, and schools support the social and economic reintegration of IDPs. The findings indicate a strong positive relationship between local government infrastructure efforts and improved reintegration outcomes, including better access to basic services, strengthened livelihoods, enhanced social cohesion, and increased community resilience. The study highlights the need for continuous, inclusive, and context-sensitive infrastructure planning to promote sustainable reintegration.
