Abstract:
Thrombophilia is characterized by a state of hypercoagulability influenced by biological risk factors, whether acquired or hereditary. The decision to perform a thrombophilia workup is currently based on specific criteria, including whether the thrombosis is provoked or unprovoked, the age at the first thrombotic event, family history, and the presence of recurrent episodes. However, interpreting the results remains challenging due to the limitations of certain tests and the need to correlate laboratory findings with the patient's clinical and therapeutic context. Therefore, the expertise of clinicians specialized in thrombotic disorders is essential to assess the true value of the workup, identify risk factors, and tailor patient management. In complex cases, a multidisciplinary discussion is necessary to optimize the therapeutic strategy.
