Abstract:
Digital elevation models (DEMs) are versatile and highly important products. Their creation requires high-resolution imagery data, specific specifications, specialized software and hardware, and theoretical and practical expertise in digital surveying. This study aimed to create a digital elevation model of the study area using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, based on aerial photographs converted to digital format and a topographic survey of the area. One of the most important results of this study was the creation of a digital terrain model that included refraction lines and the extraction of several elements, particularly contour lines with a contour interval of 0.05 meters. The study also clarified various aspects of the construction methods and their suitability for applications requiring high accuracy. Ultimately, this depends on the quality of the final product, which in turn depends on the accuracy of the data used in its creation. Furthermore, it was found that the accuracy of the final product is related to the efficiency of both the software and the digital surveying equipment used. The study also defined the stages of the digital terrain model creation process from aerial imagery data and the type and format of the resulting digital terrain model. A digital elevation model map was created with a 10x10 meter cell size. The resulting map can be used in the future to determine the topography of adjacent areas by overlapping and analyzing aerial images using approved software.
