Abstract:
As a critical variable in second language acquisition, the linguistic environment exerts a significant influence on the quality of language input, cognitive processing mechanisms, and the development of communicative competence in learners. Grounded in the Input Hypothesis, the Interaction Hypothesis, and Sociocultural Theory, this study systematically analyzes the differential impacts of three types of linguistic environments-natural, artificial, and virtual-on foreign language acquisition. Synthesizing data from 15 empirical studies reveals that high-frequency input in authentic contexts, opportunities for meaning negotiation, and cultural identity reconfiguration significantly enhance fluency and sociopragmatic competence. Conversely, the classroom environment offers advantages in fostering metalinguistic awareness, grammatical accuracy, and systematic training. This study further proposes the "Environmental Adaptation Model" (EAM), advocating that the dynamic integration of multi-dimensional environmental factors constitutes the core pathway for future foreign language pedagogy.
