Abstract:
Mango seed kernel oil was extracted using Soxhlet extraction with petroleum ether, ethanol and N-hexane. The mango oil yield from ethanol, N-hexane and petroleum ether was 20%, 13% and 8%, respectively. The physicochemical properties (acid value, iodine value, peroxide value and saponification value) of the mango seed kernel oil were examined. There was significant variation observed in Ash 1.05-2.95 %, protein value 3.985-6.17%, saponification value 163.76-176.66 mg KOH/g, iodine value 6.24-7.27 mg KOH/g, acid value 7.95-9.59%, peroxide value 0.46-2.28 meq/kg, and free fatty acid 1.47-2.24% of mango kernel oil produced. The results suggested that mango seed kernel oil can be economically useful.
