Abstract:
This article examines practical issues in teaching mother tongue and literature in contemporary education, with particular attention to learner-centred instruction, reading literacy, writing development, formative assessment, digital resources, and the integration of literary and language activities. The study aims to identify classroom practices that can improve learners' communicative competence, critical thinking, creative expression, and ability to interpret literary texts. A qualitative methodological approach was used, combining analysis of pedagogical literature, comparative analysis of traditional and active teaching practices, and methodological modelling. The findings indicate that language and literature lessons become more effective when students actively interpret, discuss, compare, write, revise, and justify their ideas rather than merely reproduce information. The article proposes a practical instructional model consisting of pre-reading or pre-language activation, guided analysis, collaborative interpretation, independent production, formative feedback, and reflection. Special attention is paid to the appropriate use of digital tools and artificial intelligence: these technologies should support learning objectives without replacing students' independent thinking or the teacher's professional judgement. The study concludes that effective mother tongue and literature teaching requires a balanced combination of explicit language instruction, meaningful literary experience, active learning, continuous assessment, and culturally relevant content.
